Aluminum Composite Panel & Aluminum Ceiling Panel — Practical FAQ

The most common questions before you choose — material differences, thickness selection, installation methods, cleaning & maintenance, and service life.

1. Aluminum Composite Panel FAQ

Materials, exterior durability, thickness selection, installation & pricing — 10 common questions

Q1What is the difference between aluminum composite panels and aluminum solid panels?

An ACP is made by sandwiching a core between two aluminum face sheets; an aluminum solid panel is a single sheet bent and formed. Key differences:

Item Composite Panel (ACP) Solid Panel
Structure Aluminum face + core + aluminum face Single aluminum sheet, bent & formed
Advantages Lightweight, flat, more affordable Higher strength, better weatherability, complex shapes
Best For Large wall surfaces, interior decoration Facades, premium projects

Q2Can aluminum composite panels be used on exterior walls? How long do they last?

Yes. Choose panels with a fluorocarbon (PVDF) coating and a face sheet of ≥0.5mm.

Under normal conditions, service life reaches 10–15 years; in coastal or heavily polluted corrosive environments, choose a higher weathering grade.

Q3How do I choose the thickness of aluminum composite panels?

Application Panel Face Sheet
Interior decoration 3mm ≥0.21mm
Exterior walls, columns 4mm or more ≥0.5mm

Final choice should also account for installation height, wind load and panel size.

Q4What colors and surface finishes are available?

Common treatments include fluorocarbon spraying, polyester spraying, film lamination, wood-grain transfer and stone-grain transfer. Thousands of customizable colors, custom matching supported:

Solid Metallic Wood-grain Stone-grain

Q5What are the installation methods for aluminum composite panels?

Method Best For Note
① Adhesive Small interior areas ——
② Keel hanging Exterior walls, large interiors Most common
③ Dry-hung High-rise facades Higher safety

The specific method depends on the project scenario and design requirements.

Q6How do I clean dirty aluminum composite panels?

For daily cleaning, use water with a mild detergent and wipe with a soft cloth or sponge; grease can be wiped off with diluted alcohol.

Never use: steel wool, strong acids or alkalis, banana oil or acetone — they scratch or corrode the coating.

Rinse with clean water and dry with a soft cloth afterwards.

Q7Can aluminum composite panels be bent or shaped?

Yes. ACP has good workability — bending, cutting, grooving and curving are all possible.

Note: there are limits on the bending radius; too-tight bends can crack the face sheet. Have a professional fabricator determine the minimum bending radius based on panel thickness.

Q8Are aluminum composite panels fire-resistant?

Standard ACP has a polyethylene (PE) core, which is combustible.

Fire-retardant option: FR core (flame-retardant material), meeting B1 (difficult-to-ignite) grade — for indoor public areas with fire-safety requirements.

Q9Are aluminum composite panels and aluminum-plastic panels the same thing?

Basically the same family. "Aluminum-plastic panel" is the short name for aluminum-plastic composite panel, while "aluminum composite panel" is a broader term covering aluminum-plastic and aluminum honeycomb composite panels. In daily communication they usually refer to the same product — always confirm the technical parameters.

Q10How is the price of aluminum composite panels calculated?

The price is mainly affected by the following factors:

① Panel thickness (3mm / 4mm)

② Face sheet thickness (0.21 / 0.3 / 0.5mm)

③ Surface finish (polyester / fluorocarbon / wood-grain)

④ Number of colors (custom colors cost extra)

⑤ Whether processing is needed (bending, grooving)

⑥ Order volume

Usually priced per square meter, with discounts for larger orders.

2. Aluminum Ceiling Panel FAQ

Sizes, thickness, moisture resistance, keels & service life — 9 common questions

Q1What are the common sizes of aluminum ceiling panels?

Size Best For
300×300mm, 300×600mm Home kitchens & bathrooms
600×600mm Offices, commercial projects
600×1200mm, etc. Custom sizes on request

Q2What thickness should I choose for aluminum ceiling panels?

Location Recommended
Home kitchens & bathrooms 0.5–0.6mm is enough
Offices, commercial spaces 0.6–0.8mm
Large-span, high-requirement 0.8–1.0mm

Thicker is not always better — match keel spacing and the application.

Q3How are aluminum ceiling panels and integrated ceilings related?

An integrated ceiling combines aluminum panels with lighting, ventilation and heating modules into a complete ceiling system — the aluminum panel is its core component.

In short: an integrated ceiling includes aluminum panels; panels can be used alone, or combined with appliances to form an integrated ceiling.

Q4Can aluminum ceiling panels be used in kitchens and bathrooms? Are they moisture-proof?

Absolutely. Aluminum alloy — waterproof, moisture-proof, rust-proof, mold-resistant, with oil-resistant coatings. The top choice for kitchen & bathroom ceilings.

For kitchens, choose smooth, easy-to-clean sprayed or roll-coated panels; for bathrooms, choose models with strong moisture resistance.

Q5What are the differences between surface finishes?

The four finishes differ in color, weatherability and suitable applications — see the full comparison in the Finish Guide table below.

Q6How do I remove and clean installed panels?

Step How
Remove Use a suction cup (integrated-ceiling type), attach to one corner, pull down gently
Clean Wipe with mild detergent and a soft cloth, rinse, dry, and reinstall

Never: pry with hard tools (deformation) or use strong acids / alkalis (surface corrosion).

Q7How do I choose the right keels (framing)?

Keels are divided into main and secondary (triangular) keels. Homes commonly use light steel keels ≥0.5mm thick. Notes:

① Keels must be rust-treated (galvanized or powder-coated)

② Main keel spacing generally ≤1200mm

③ Secondary keel spacing must match the panel size

④ In humid environments, choose thicker anti-rust keels

Note: low-quality keels rust and deform easily, causing the ceiling to sag.

Q8Can aluminum ceiling panels be used for shaped / custom ceilings?

Standard panels are square / rectangular modules for flat ceilings. For curved, circular or stepped designs, two options:

① Custom-shaped panels (requires molds, higher cost)

② Use solid panels or other materials for the shaped parts, and standard panels for flat areas

Discuss the plan with your designer in advance.

Q9How long do aluminum ceiling panels last?

Under normal indoor conditions, quality panels last 15–20 years.

Factors: ① thickness & material ② finish (fluorocarbon > roll-coating > lamination) ③ environment (damp / heavy grease shortens life) ④ keel quality

Choose reputable manufacturers and proper installation for a guaranteed lifespan.

3. Aluminum Ceiling Panel Finish Guide

Four mainstream finishes at a glance (corresponds to Ceiling Panel FAQ Q5)

Finish Characteristics Best For
Film-laminated Rich colors, low price, but limited heat resistance Balconies, ordinary corridors
Roll-coated Good adhesion, strong weatherability, great value Kitchens, bathrooms, offices
Sprayed (fluorocarbon / polyester) Best weatherability, longest service life Commercial projects, high-requirement areas
Brushed Strong metallic texture, elegant look Commercial spaces, feature walls
